Coleman Wesley “C.W.” Cox Sr., 79, San Saba, died Jan. 9. He was born Feb. 24, 1933, in Alpine, to Cole- man Foster Cox Jr. and Mary (White) Cox. He married Mary Catherine Roberds on May 30, 1953, in Richland Springs. C.W. graduated from Alpine High School and then attended Sul Ross University. He worked as a range conservationist with the Soil Conservation Service in Monahans and Colorado City. He operated ranches in Brewster, Pecos, Terrell and San Saba counties. He is survived by his wife, 2 sons, and numerous other rela- tives.


Longtime American Hereford Association (AHA) assistant secretary B.C. “Bud” Snidow, 95, Fairway, Kan., died Jan. 26, 2013. He served as AHA’s assistant secretary from 1961 to 1983. Since 1983 he was associ- ated with the U.S. Beef Breeds Council, acting as a coordinator between the Foreign Agricultural Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the various breed associations. LaDell “Dell” Westmoreland McAdams, 83, Hunts- ville, died Jan. 28. She was born Oct. 24, 1929, in Liberty to Lee Kelton Westmoreland and Lila Long West- moreland. She graduated from Huntsville High School in 1947 and attended Sam Houston State and Sul Ross State universities. She married Doyle F. McAdams Jr. on Jan. 29, 1949. She is survived by son Jim McAdams and his wife Molly, grandchildren and numerous other rela- tives. Roy Wheeler, 83, Pleasanton, died Jan. 29. He was born May 22, 1929, in Houston and was a Texas A&M graduate. He married wife Bonnie on Dec. 19, 1953. In December 1960, Roy and his partner Eugene Schwert- ner, Capitol Cattle Company, bought a cattle auction business and had their fi rst sale Jan. 12, 1961. He served as director of numerous state and national beef industry and wildlife organizations. He is survived by his son, Jim Wheeler and wife Cindy, and grandchildren. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to the Wounded Warriors Project.

Retired TSCRA Special Ranger Bobby Upchurch, 71, Alpine, died Feb. 4, 2013. He was the son of Olen and Nancy Upchurch, Odessa. He dedicated more than 40 years to law enforcement, starting with the Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Depart- ment and the Reeves County Sheriff’s Department, where he met his wife of 35 years, Edna. Bobby retired from TSCRA in 2012 after dedicating 26 years as a special ranger and Master Peace Offi cer. He was a founding member of the Texas Chief Deputies Association, established in 1985. He is survived by his wife, 6 children, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grand- children. Memorial donations may be made to the Hope House of Midland and Hospice of San Angelo.


Rancher and businessman Oscar Lee Wilkirson, 86, Grandview, died Feb. 12. He was born March 12, 1926, in Dallas to Cad T. and May Files Wilkirson. He was mar- ried for over 57 years to Mary Anne Pollan, originally of Seagoville. He graduated from Grandview High School in 1943 and enrolled in the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi frater- nity. After 2 years of U.S. Naval service concluded, he returned to Austin and earned a bachelor of business administration degree in 1949. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter, grandchildren and numerous other relatives. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Genene Lee Bateman Birdwell, 83, Austin, died Feb. 17. She was born in Hastings, Neb., on July 6, 1929, to Maxie Murray Bateman and Tolbert Raymond Bateman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, John E. Birdwell, rancher and past president of TSCRA. Upon graduating high school, she attended Gulf Park College For Girls in Gulfport, Miss., and transferred to the University of New Mexico, where she majored in journalism. She is survived by her children and their spouses: John E. Birdwell, Richard Clay and Martha Birdwell, William Britt and Lisa Birdwell, Robert Scott and Michele Birdwell and Genene Lee Birdwell Black, grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
