compete at World Junior event Lexettes, Skyliners The Lexettes and the Skyliners fi nished sixth and seventh, respectively, last month
at the 2013 ISU World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships in Helsinki, Finland. Both teams were selected to compete after fi nishing fi rst and second, respectively,
at the 2013 World Junior Team Selection Event in January. This was the fi rst time the Lex- ettes qualifi ed for the World Junior event, while the Skyliners made their fourth consecu- tive appearance. The Lexettes, who fi nished third at the 2013 U.S. Synchronized Skating Champion-
ships, earned 97.64 points for their free skate to Mirror Mirror and fi nished with 144.70 points overall. The Skyliners, silver medalists at the 2013 U.S. Synchronized Skating Champion-
ships, performed their free skate to West Side Story. The team fi nished with 143.69 points. Finland’s Musketeers claimed the gold with 183.20 points. Finland’s Team Fintastic,
the reigning six-time champions, led after the short program but fell in the free skate. They settled for the silver medal with 183 points. Russia’s Spartak-Junost won the bronze medal with 171.56 points.
Skater transactions announced Each year after the U.S. Championships, skaters face many decisions regarding
partnerships, coaches and their future as competitive athletes. The decision-making pro- cess results in a fl urry of pairings, breakups and coaching changes. Below is a breakdown of those transactions made through February. Coaching Lynn Kriengkrairut and Logan Giulietti-Schmitt, who most recently fi nished fi fth at
the 2013 U.S. Championships, announced they would commence training with Olym- pic and World coach Igor Shpilband in Novi., Mich., just 30 minutes from their long- time training site of Ann Arbor, Mich. The duo had trained with Yasa Nechaeva and Yuri Chesnichenko since forming their partnership seven years ago. “At this point, we believe we need a complete change to take our skating to the
next level,” Giulietti-Schmitt said. “We are excited for what is in store for us under Igor’s tutelage and for the opportunity to have a completely diff erent approach to our skating.” Parting ways Caitlin Yankowskas and Joshua Reagan announced they will no longer skate to- gether. The pairs team partnered up last spring, but they never competed togeth- er. They withdrew from both of their Grand Prix Series assignments and the 2013 U.S. Championships. Reagan was plagued by a rib injury throughout the season.
Neither athlete has announced future intentions. Yankowskas
was the 2011 U.S. champion with former partner John Coughlin, while Reagan won the 2011 U.S. junior title with Ashley Cain. Pairs skaters Lindsay Davis and Mark Ladwig, the 2013 U.S. pewter medalists, ended their partnership. Ladwig, who was a 2010 Olym- pian with Amanda Evora, is exploring various options, while Davis has found a new partner, teaming up with Rockne Brubaker. Bru- baker is a three-time U.S. medalist at the senior level. He won the 2012 U.S. silver medal with Mary Beth Marley, from whom he parted ways last fall, and he won two titles with Keauna McLaughlin. Davis and Brubaker will train in Canton, Mich., with Johnny Johns and Marina Zoueva.
