Hamill trades skates for dancing shoes as contestant on ‘Dancing with the Stars’
While most of us know Dorothy Hamill as the 1976 World and Olympic gold medalist,
these days, she’s traded in her skates for a pair of ballroom dancing shoes, appearing as a con- testant on ABC’s hit show “Dancing with the Stars.” The reality show, now in its 16th season, premiered March 18 and featured an all-star
lineup, including Hamill, who is partnered with returning professional Tristan MacManus. Mac- Manus, who is appearing on the show for the fourth consecutive season, previously partnered television host Nancy Grace, singer Gladys Knight and television star Pamela Anderson. “This year I decided to take on a new challenge, learning to ballroom dance!” Hamill
tweeted following the new cast announcement last month on “Good Morning America.” “Here’s to learning new things in 2013 and having what I know will be one of the most memorable experiences in my life.” While the dance fl oor is new territory for Hamill, she follows in the footsteps of fellow
skating greats as the third Olympic fi gure skating champion to appear on the show. In 2008, the sixth season’s coveted mirror ball trophy went to 1992 Olympic champion Kristi Yamagu- chi, while 2010 Olympic champion Evan Lysacek fi nished as runner-up in the show’s 10th sea- son.
