Calco Teams With Centerline
T e C.A. Lawton Co. (Calco),
De Pere, Wis., has formed a joint venture with Centerline Machining & Grinding Inc., Hobart, Wis. T is new partnership, to be known as Centerline Machining & Grinding, LLC, consists of Centerline’s assets and operations as well as contribu- tions of capital and equipment from Calco. It will allow the companies to market the capabilities of both businesses to their distinctive sets of existing customers, as well as plan and invest together in new projects and capabilities. T e joint venture increases the customer base and mar- ket reach for both companies. “One of Calco’s strategic objectives
is to increase the number of ma- chined components we provide. T is will enhance our ability to increase production in our foundry,” said Alex Lawton, CEO, Calco. T e current owners and manag-
ers will continue to direct day-to-day operations. T e limited overlap in capa- bilities creates an opportunity for future investments in new machines to in- crease capacity and fl exibility, allowing the shops to jointly manage workloads and capitalize on new opportunities. T e partnership with Centerline re-
portedly improves Calco’s ability to meet an increasing demand for machined components in markets including min- ing, agriculture, and oil and gas. “T is is not a wholly owned subsid-
iary or ‘plant 2’ for Calco, but a partner- ship with a distinct operation and its own identity, ownership structure and management,” Lawton said. Calco is an ISO 9001:2008 certi-
fi ed iron casting company that employs approximately 150 people. Its integrated business includes patternmaking, cast- ing and machining capabilities. Centerline Machining & Grind-
ing LLC is a machine and fabrication shop employing approximately 20 people in its 30,000-sq.-ft. facility. It provides CNC horizontal and vertical machining centers, CNC horizontal boring mills, CNC lathes, CNC out- side diameter and surface grinding, and CNC laser and press brakes.
