Lights in Alingsås 2.0 Lights in Alingsås” sta

Proffe essional members

started 13 years ago: sinc e then about 80 PLDA

essional members ha ve beenW orkshop Heads in this beautiful little Swedish town, to work with the next generation of ligh ting designers and/or other young members of the design community.

In autumn 2011, one year before the last contract ended, PLD A was asked by the Kommun of Alingsås, if we would like to continue , and how we would like to proceed.

We proposed to continue with the progr am but with the revised working title Alingsås 2.0: as the world of lighting has fur ther developed and changed, the workshops have to do also. Change is not a prog r am, it´s a principle.

We originally star t ed theWorkshops ( WS) in the da ys of metal-halide and incandescent lamps. The light was a bit warmer or a bit c ooler; y, many light sourc es are

some of the lamps could be dimmed. Today, To

electronic and are controlled dig itally. We are in a per iod of a second lighting revolution, the biggest step in development after the firstfft revolution of artificial lighting: the electric lighting.

So what´s new? Light today can be colour ed; it can be dynamic , and when you are working with controlled dots you’ re using media t echnology. The overall theme: lighting is digital.

We don´t want to reinven t the wheel, but theWS ffo orma t needs to be

adjusted to address the cutting-edge technolog ies.W e envisage the new format of Lights in Alingsas as bec oming a lab.We will w ork much closer with our sponsors, the lighting industry. In our A lingsås lab w e want to try today’s newest products, we want t o focus on dynamics and content.

As a non-profit association we are first and foremost inter ested in educational themes. As one of the major associations repr esenting lighting prof essionals worldwide, we try to find the best wa y to launch

themes and topics of future lighting.

Music can be seen as a method to organize time. S o in the further developed futur e,WS ffo

ormat musicians/c omposers will suppor t theWS

Heads andWS Groups. Another support will be the collabor ation with a playwright, a specialist of methods to tell a story and create conten t. The traditional Opening Ceremony will be revised to include a separa t eWS Group, thereffo

ore a specialist in video technology and enter tainment will guide this additional WS.

The most important change will be that we star t in 2013 for the very first time with a main theme for Lights in Alingsas. A s usual, the lighting installations are created ffo however

or students and f r,, wefeel it is beneficial t of just doing what you want.

We will start with a lecture progr am f or the WS participan ts , on subjec ts close t o the main t opic and the methods w e wish to impar t. Then we will continue into a practical sessions with one day ex tra of content and practise than we had in former years.

S o we will“freshen up” the established parts and add new elemen ts. We want to step into the future with an upda tedWS orma t to enable the participants to present more elaborate results to the public. With the help of our Circle of Sponsors , with the en thusiasm of ourWS eam and the generous support of Alingsas Kommun, we are ex cit ed about implementing the next step.

fof Team and th Te

It´s for the lighting community: it´s ffo our pr feofessio

ession. Herbert Cybulska Presiden t of PLDA -We are the desig ners! or the public: it´s for the futur e of fo and fofor the general public; e fffe liti b fi i lto all to focus on a themed topic , instead
