WHETHER it’s driving to the airport, day trips to keep the kids entertained or taking your car away with you, the chances are you’ll be clocking up the miles over the Easter holidays. But there’s no quicker way to dampen your holiday spirit than having a breakdown in your car, so make sure you get your vehicle checked out before you set off and don’t leave it until the last minute, in case there are any serious repairs that need seeing to. “If you are taking your car away with you, then check your water and oil levels before you go. “It’s also important to check your lights, tyre pressure and the tread depth, which you should do on a regular basis anyway.
“If your vehicle hasn’t been serviced for a while, then make sure you get it done soon and if you have any queries about anything, call in and we can have a look at them for you,” said Richard. “Although you can check a lot of things yourself, there’s a few things you can’t test at home, like brake fluid or anti-freeze levels and the condition of the battery. “We always check these kind of things during a service, but if you don’t want one done, then pop in and we can check the essentials for you in a matter of minutes.”

Richard adds that a lot of people forget about their timing belt, which needs changing at certain intervals, depending on the manufacturer. He explained: “It’s important to have it checked to see if it needs changing because if the timing belt breaks, it will bend valves and the engine will stop running, which is an expensive problem to repair. “There’s really nothing worse than breaking down on the motorway, so make sure that won’t happen to you before all the long journeys start for the year.” And with the affordable prices at Meersbrook Service Station, there’s really no excuse for your car not to be in tip-top condition before you set off.
