I NSTRUCTOR PROFI LE Lynn Dominguez
Level 2: Essentials of Canoe Touring Instructor Trainer
Level 3: Freestyle Canoeing Instructor Level 3: Coastal Kayak Instructor
How long have you been in paddlesports? twenty years. My first certification was in 1995 in canoeing.
What is your favorite paddlesport? This is a tough question to answer, but for the most part it is whatever boat I am in at the time. I have always encouraged kayakers to try and explore canoeing and vice versa. I have recently tried standup paddleboarding and have started throw this into the mix as well.
How did you get into paddlesports? I grew up in Michigan and it seems like everyone there has been in a canoe. When I moved to Virginia, my husband got the family an Old Town on our anniversary. The first time we paddled it, we zig- zagged bank to bank all day long. We thought it must have been the canoe, not us.

We tried to take it back and ended up getting a Bill Mason video from the shop. We took the video and set up the canoe in the living room to watch it and while paddling at the same time. We moved on to a Mad River four years later and at that point did our first ACA certification course.
I got into kayaking when we moved back to Michigan. I learned about Greenland-style paddling and that these boats fit me much better than other kayaks. I took my ACA kayak instructor certification course soon after.
Tell us about one of your favorite places to paddle? One of my favorite trips was an 11- day, 110-mile all women trip on Lake Superior through Hattie Cove to Wawa, Ontario. I have also done a supported trip in Alaska and hope
to go back and do a self-supported trip there. I also hope to take a trip to the Georgian Islands.
Who has influenced you most in your paddling career? Gail Green has be a huge influence on my paddling career. She is also an ACA Instructor Trainer Educator. She taught me early on about how being a woman in the outdoor education world can be tough.
Once she was a guest instructor at a symposium I was attending. There were some rough conditions that day and she was able to encourage and take students out to teach them how to paddle, helping build all their self- confidence and skills. She encouraged me to become an ACA instructor and has mentored many female paddlers during her career.
