LEADER LETDOWN As the father of a high school girls’ lacrosse player, I was extremely disappointed to hear that there would only be three women’s lacrosse games that are going to be televised on ESPN this year. My daughter and I are avid readers of your magazine and we wanted to express our frustration with others who share in our hopes that more collegiate women’s games will be televised.

 MERIT BADGE As an avid reader of your

articles and magazines, as well as a lacrosse player myself, I would just like to show my gratitude. Reading your magazine helped me grow as a lacrosse player and helped me learn more about the lacrosse world. I play defense, and much of my equipment has been obtained after looking in your magazine. In Boy Scouts, we were working on the

communications merit badge, and one of the requirements was to write to a magazine we admire. I chose to write you.

 THAT SPARK I wanted to give two thumbs up on your article about lax 24-7-365 (“Not Sold on the Upsell,” November 2012). My experience with my now 14-year-old son was that of a fi rst-time lacrosse parent who saw that spark and love of lax in the boy’s eye. He couldn’t wait for the season to start. It was always, “one more month, Dad, ‘til fi rst game. Can you take me to play wall ball? Can you take me to shoot goals?” So I signed him up for

everything and anything lacrosse. Unfortunately, being a busy parent with too much on a small plate, I did not read the signs until it was too late. He started losing interest, didn’t want to go to practices and games and wanted to come with me to work instead or take a break.

He had lost that spark. Now I make sure he has that hunger come spring. He plays January through July. I do not bring up any lax after that. It comes down to realizing I’m not raising a lacrosse player. I’m trying to raise the best, well-rounded,

well-adjusted human being I can — and not have him despise something he once had passion for. That’s the job I took on. When I have my doubts about that, I will remember your article.

I am writing to ask why more attention is not paid to the college club lacrosse teams. I have been searching for a program for my son to be involved in, because I think being a part of a team is a positive experience. Not all the talented players are recruited by the various Division I, II or III programs. I have counted upward of 150 club teams at a number of quality schools. With Title IX handcuffi ng many schools from embarking on a more recognized path, it is important for the readers to understand if they want to continue to play, clubs are a viable alternative.
