Aquatica III SeaWorld acquires Knott’s Soak City

SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment has acquired Knott’s Soak City in San Diego, California, and plans to reopen it as the third Aquatica branded property within its group. The standalone waterpark was previously owned by Cedar Fair, operator of Knott’s Berry Farm outside Los Angeles. Located just south of San Diego in Chula Vista, the park sits 23 miles (37km) from SeaWorld San Diego. SeaWorld already operates Aquatica outlets close to its parks in Orlando, Florida, and San Antonio, Texas, and an extensive renovation is planned over the winter in Chula Vista – including

the introduction of new animal exhibits. “We will make significant changes transforming the park into Aquatica,” promises Jim Atchison, president and CEO of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. “These parks reflect the highest standard of quality in attractions, entertainment and theming, but the presence of animals makes the experience something truly special.” Aquatica San Diego will open in June. Terms of the deal with Cedar Fair, which have been under negotiation for several months, have not been disclosed.

Waterparks get social

Don’t be disturbed if you see a UFO next time you visit the local waterpark. India’s Arihant Industrial Corporation has announced plans for a new space-age-themed attraction that will turn a corner of any waterpark into a social space for guests to interact and party. The 77ft-diameter Space Disc consists of undercover disco with rain showers, fog effects, fountains, sound and light effects including an

illuminated dancefloor. As well as helping waterparks extend their opening hours, the attraction can also be rented out for conferences and events for up to 130 people.

Arihant has already built several similar products in Asia, but has refined various features for the launch of Space Disc in Europe and the USA. Following the unveiling of the concept at the recent IAAPA Attractions Expo in Orlando, the company is already talking to several interested parties according to marketing director Pranay Safari
