Cruise News More Royal Glances

Windstar’s New Bistro

PRINCESS CRUISES have unveiled their latest design touches aboard their forthcoming Royal Princess, which promises to be one of THE most distinctive new ships in 2013.

T

he latest video ‘reveal’ goes into the details of the special adults-only Sanctuary area, as well as the

Retreat Pool and private cabanas. The Sanctuary was introduced on Crown

Princess in 2006 and Royal’s is even more plush, with enhancements that include a new, contemporary décor, an intimate design with simplicity, or “a secret garden,” as the designers call it. Strategically placed rock gardens and atmospheric lighting create an inviting path, complete with fabulous ocean villas, to the central pavilion. The four new cabanas offer even more exclusive features, with TVs, sofas, picnic baskets and champagne. There will also be two new spa cabanas for a special al fresco massage experience looking over the front of the ship. The new-look Retreat pool is an area for adults to relax and rejuvenate, with more space, seating and more private cabanas

than on any previous Princess ship. For all the details of Royal Princess to date, be sure to look up www.princess. com/learn/ships/rp/. For our own special preview of the

new vessel, turn to Page 64 for Gary Buchanan’s exclusive first look. Meanwhile, Princess has announced

two special new Asia cruise opportunities, offering unique itineraries that explore some of the most alluring ports in the region.

Departing in October and November 2013 aboard Diamond Princess, these 10 and 11-day voyages sail round-trip from Singapore, taking in Bangkok, Bali, Nha Trang and Phuket, as well as two ports not usually visited, Penang, Malaysia and Sihanoukville, Cambodia. For those with more time, both sailings can be combined into a 21-day south-east Asia Grand Adventure. More info: www.princess.com.

WINDSTAR CRUISES is to feature a new dining feature aboard flagship sailing yacht Wind Surf at the completion of the vessel’s dry dock this December. Formerly known as Degrees, the venue will be transformed into a contemporary dining room with a French twist and renamed Stella Bistro. The name, derived from the Latin word for star, was selected as a tribute to the restaurant’s special dining experience, unique to the fleet, as Stella Bistro will only be on Wind Surf. The newly created menu will draw on contemporary dishes with a French flair, as exemplified by entrees such as Coquille St Jacques Provençale, a seared, skewered scallops dish served on pappardelle and tossed with artichoke hearts, spinach and capers in a light, white wine sauce; or the Roasted Magret of duck, a duck breast and duck confit on cherry sauce paired with parisienne potatoes and French beans. With a capacity of 86, the intimate setting will receive new furniture, flooring, wine display cabinet and a collection of classic and contemporary pendent lighting. The walls will be decorated with an eclectic mix of antique mirrors and vintage photographs. More info: www.windstarcruises.com/ renovations.aspx.
