This month Dominic Geddes steps up at Mattel, Tomy makes a trio of marketing hires, Plum Products plots more indoor toys with a new recruit and DKL continues to expand, adding a social media specialist
BINWEEVILS Online game Binweevils has hired a new head of PR. Yinka Akindele will lead the
firm’s communications strategy across both trade and consumer media. She joins the firm from
MATTEL Dominic Geddes (pictured left) has been promoted at Mattel UK. He is now VP and country manager for UK, Ireland and Nordics. In the new position, Geddes will also become a member of Mattel’s European Leadership Team for Core Europe.
Geddes was previously sales director at Mattel UK – a position he held for 13 years. In the US, Robert Eckert (right) will retire as Mattel’s director and chairman of the board on December 31st. Mattel’s CEO Bryan Stockton will become the new chairman.
Turner Broadcasting, where she held the role of senior press officer for kids’ brands, including Cartoon Network and Boomerang. Akindele said: “I’m thrilled to join Binweevils at such an exciting time and look forward to playing a part in its continued success. It is a phenomenal brand, set to become even stronger in these coming months, and I will be working hard with the team to ensure Binweevils communication is reflective of its solid position in the market.”
PLUM PRODUCTS Outdoor specialist Plum Products has a new product
TOMY The marketing team at Tomy has expanded by three. Lauren Byrne (pictured left)has arrived from Hasbro as brand manager for boys toys and trains. She will take charge of Chuggington, Tomica and K’nex. Libby Wybrow (centre)has joined the
company as senior brand manager in the mother, infant and toddler team. She will be responsible for all marketing and communications for the firm’s nursery lines. Paige Willis (right)will work alongside both Wybrow and Byrne as marketing assistant.
manager for indoor toys. Rebecca Snape will be helping to develop the firm’s indoor range, creating a collection of traditional wooden toys. Following on from the success of its Wooden Role Play Kitchens, Plum is expanding its range of indoor play for
autumn/winter 2013. The collection will include more
kitchens, plus doll houses, activity play tables and boys and girls play-sets. It will be available to preview in Hong Kong, Toy Fair at Olympia and in Nuremberg.
DKL
Supplier DKL Marketing has
appointed Toyin Oseni as its new
sales and marketing administrator. Oseni will be responsible
for social networking and growing consumer PR, as well as being the link to trade activities. She has previous
experience in social network marketing. David Allan, sales &
marketing director at DKL, said: “We intend to move forward and grow our business, and Toyin is very much part of our plans to keep ahead of consumer awareness of all our key brands.”
MGA Rachael Craig has been appointed European marketing manager for
the Little Tikes brand at MGA Entertainment. Craig has a background in the FMCG industry, working on brands such as Huggies, Kleenex and Walkers.
Her appointment follows on from the recent
retirement of Gerry Tekerian from his role as European manager.
INSPIRATION WORKS Kurio
company Inspiration Works has hired Paul
Joyner to oversee its technology customer base. He arrives from Sanyo
Electronics where he spent over 20 years in senior sales management positions. He will work closely with national account managers and the marketing team, and will also work on new channel development. Joyner will report to UK
director and general manager, David Martin.
AMETHYST GROUP The UK’s largest toy logistics provider, Amethyst
Group, has appointed a new business development manager, John Hayward, who will be responsible for growing its existing toys and consumer goods division. He brings a wealth of experience from a retail and food logistics background and is excited to be involved in the toys and games sector.
Prior to this appointment
Hayward was a business development manager at Wincanton.
