Grafted Tomato & Veggie Plants
Amish Paste
We’re excited to introduce our new line of “Super Naturals” grafted vegetables! Grafted veggies are created when the top part of one plant (the scion) is attached to the root system of a separate plant
(the rootstock). When their tissues heal, they fuse into one super plant with the best qualities of each – the rootstock contributes vigor and disease resistance while the scion is chosen for ex- ceptional fruit flavor or quality. The resulting plant is more vigor- ous and productive than the variety would be without the special rootstock. But grafting strengthens the variety naturally, taking advantage of the plant’s own ability/desire to heal itself, unlike unsettling means of “improving” plants with genetic engineering.

Disease resistance – Grafting has been found effective against Verticillium Wilt (Verticillium albo-atrum, V. dahliae), Fusarium Wilt (Fusarium oxysporum), Corky Root Rot (Pyrenochaeta lycosersici), Root-Knot Nematodes (Meloidogyne), Bacterial Wilt (Ralstonia solanacearum), Tomato Mosaic Virus, and Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus. Because healthier, more vigorous plants have better defenses against pests and disease, grafting may also help plants ward off three other big tomato problems: Early Blight (Alternaria solani), Late Blight (Phytophthora infestans), and Blossom End-Rot (a physiological disorder caused by low calcium levels).

Tolerance to environmental stresses – Grafted plants are also more tolerant of environmental stresses like salinity or temperature extremes. And with the ability to withstand hotter and cooler temperatures comes an added bonus – an extended growing season.
Increased vigor and yield – Even for growers and gardeners who are fortunate enough to have fresh soil and ideal growing conditions, grafting has its advantages. The vigorous rootstock

increases the uptake of water and nutrients, for healthier, more productive plants that aren’t dependent on large amounts of pesticides or fertilizers.
Organic farmers especially benefit from grafted plants, because they can achieve better resistance to pests and disease without soil fumigation or chemical pesticides, as well as higher yields without chemical fertilizers.
These Mighty Veggies have qualities that go beyond the ordinary – like superheroes, Mighty Veggies Grafted Vegetables are stronger, faster, more able to fend off foes better than regular vegetable plants – and their harvests are bigger! By grafting favorite heirloom and conventional tomato varieties like Brandy- wine or Big Beef onto special solanum rootstock, good varieties become super varieties. Mighty ’Mato and Mighty Veggies have an extraordinary ability to defend against pests, diseases, temperature extremes, and poor soils, while producing early, long, and abundant harvests of big beautiful fruit. These healthy, vigorous plants have tons of production potential, going above and beyond the call of duty to bring big, wholesome harvests to gardeners everywhere.
Planting instructions
Handle carefully when transplanting to avoid bending or putting pressure on the graft. Plant at the same level the tomato is growing in the pot to keep the graft well above soil level so any external roots that may form on the scion don’t come into contact with the soil. These vigorous plants will require stakes or cages, as well as careful pruning to ensure that the plant’s en- ergy goes to fruit production and not excessive foliage. Remove any suckers that form below the graft or any roots that emerge above the graft.
