FILET & POLE

W CALIMA 55 Day

2012 Bean of the Year This fi- let type bean has a dark green color. It is a very early bean that is a higher yield with very good taste. The beans should be picked when the pods are about the diameter of a pencil. The beans are easily picked because they are born at the top of sturdy bushes. Excellent for fresh eat- ing as uncut pods, but can be used for canning and freezing. #01022 (A) Pkt. (1½ oz) $2.95; (N) ½ lb. $9.95; (P) 1 lb. $16.50; (P) 4 lbs. $49.50

POLE BEAN CULTURE

Plant 1” deep in hills 3’ apart each way, 5 or 6 beans in a hill, then set 6’ high rough poles into each hill. When plants are established, thin to 3 or 4 strongest plants in each hill.

If you plant in rows,

space seeds 4” apart in rows 2’ apart and use our Trellis Netting for vine support (see page 3). Stake the netting every 3’ to prevent sagging. Pick frequently, as pole beans are prolific, and will continue to bear until frost. One-half pound of pole beans plants 10-40 poles, depending on seed size. For best results, inoculate beans at time of planting with Nature’s Aid Rhizobia Inoculant on page 3. A packet contains 2 oz. unless otherwise stated.
