Dear Gardening Friend,

We here at Vermont Bean are always looking for the newest in gardening as well as the tried and true heirlooms that have always graced the pages of our seed catalog. This year we are introducing to you, our custom- ers, a new technology to the US that has been used for years in Europe and Asia. That is grafted vegetables. When you first hear grafted vegetables, you wonder what this new wave of vegetables can possibly do that can’t be done by seedlings. See the tomatoes, peppers and eggplant being offered on page 27. The explanation is there. They are sure to impress you and your neighbors.

We have noticed that many new gardeners are joining the ranks, many out of necessity to help the grocery bill. We would like to be your source of gardening information as well as your source for gardening products. If you have any question about gardening, please drop us a line either online at info@vermont- bean.com or through the normal mail. We will do our best to answer your questions.

You will notice that flower seeds, bulbs and other items are

no longer in Vermont Bean. Many of the items we formerly sold can be found on our mall website, www.egardenersplace.com. They are the same great quality you received from us, but from one of our sister companies.

Once again, we would like to say, “Thank You” for your past and future orders - your loyalty is the foundation of our suc- cess. As our company continues to grow and prosper, we wish the same for you and your garden.

Enjoy a bountiful garden in 2013! FROM ALL OF US AT THE VERMONT BEAN SEED COMPANY

NEW SQUARE FOOT GARDENING BOOK

The book that describes the gardening system developed by Mel Bartholomew that al- lows gardening in raised beds. This system allows you to have a lush garden even if you have very little space to do it in. The book tells you the soil mix that is used to plant your garden along with the spacing of most vegetables. The 4’ x 4’ system is then divided by a grid that gives you 16 sq. ft. It also includes the order you plant them in so if you have a vining vegetable such as cucumbers or tomatoes, you train them on a trellis that can be attached to the garden.

The accelerated system of growth also allows you to double or tri- ple crop your square foot garden for fresh vegetables and greens all summer long. If you have never tried this method and you have limited space for gardening, why not try it. Some gardeners are now using multiple sq. ft. gardens in stead of or in addition to regular gardens. #53890 Book $19.95
