Geared motor same day assembly service
expanded for ATEX Gas and Dust up to 18.5 kW
NORD DRIVESYSTEMS has expanded its fast
assembly service for ATEX geared motors to include Gas Zone 1 & 2 and Dust Zone 21 & 22 for nominal motor power ratings up to 18.5 kW. Consolidating NORD as one of the leading ATEX drive suppliers in the UK, the geared motors are available with a wide selection of options for standard delivery within 3-days or, for very urgent requirements, a same day assembly and despatch service. The 94/9/EC compliant range options include temperature class to T4 (135ºC) and both non-conductive and conductive dusts. The ATEX classification 2G/Zone 1 geared motors available from the UK assembly service suit IEC frame ATEX rated motors in both standard and IE2 high efficiency classes, for frame sizes 80 through 180. Geared units include a broad selection of foot and B14 or B5 face mount versions with a wide choice of motor mounting positions. With torque output from 32 to 3200 Nm, options include synthetic and food grade oils, Viton seals and backstops. Motor options include a wide choice of voltages,
thermistors, IP66 sealing, encoders and auxiliary fans.

LIR Systems has been a leading light in the commercialisation of thermal imaging cameras across all wavelengths in the infrared spectrum. This has led to some important developments, including the application of infrared to gas detection. This technology is increasingly being adopted by plants across the world for the visualisation and documentation of gas leaks. And it is recognition of its growing popularity in the UK and wider Europe that the FLIR Systems Infrared Training Centre (ITC) has now added a specific training course on the subject. An optical gas imaging thermal camera that can visualize Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) can be an extremely important tool for tracing dangerous gas leaks. It is a quick, non-contact measuring instrument. It can detect small leaks from several metres away and big leaks from hundreds of metres away. It can even show leaks on moving vehicles, greatly improving the safety of both the inspector and the plant. Another advantage is that systems do not have to be shut down during the inspection; measurements can be carried out remotely and rapidly. The FLIR GasFindIR course will be held from 4th to 6th September at ITC in West Malling, Kent, UK. .

New stainless steel pulse valve for dust collector systems
SCO Numatics has introduced a 316L CF8M stainless steel version of its series 353 pulse valve for use in dust collector systems. Certified to ATEX Category II 2G/D Zone 1 + 2 for explosive areas, it has been introduced to meet the growing demand for valves for challenging environments in the food, plastics, chemical and oil and gas industries.
A The valve has the same features as the existing aluminium
version and is suitable for control with either remote ASCO pilot valves or an integral solenoid. Available as ¾”, 1” and 1½” threaded versions, the patented piston design
substantially reduces the stroke volume while still enabling high flow rates. This reduces the amount of air to be exhausted, resulting in faster operation and enabling savings to be made in compressed air production.
The Quick Mount connections provide easy installation by eliminating the need for
threaded piping, thereby reducing the chance of misalignment. Built-in silencers reduce noise and prevent foreign particles from entering the valve. The series 353 pulse valve is part of a complete range of dust collector products from ASCO Numatics that includes pulse valves, pilot valves, pilot boxes, sequential controllers, pressure differential modules, tank systems and air preparation equipment.

Crowcon’s IRmax Infrared Hydrocarbon Gas Detector - Certified to SIL 2
SIL 2 by Sira Test and Certification Ltd according to the requirements of the IEC 61508 and EN50402 functional safety standards. This certification provides 3rd party assurance of the integrity and dependability of the IRmax and allows it to be included as part of a SIL 2 safety system.
Crowcon’s IRmax infrared hydrocarbon gas detector has been certified to According to Sira, the IEC 61508 functional safety standard “provides the
assurance that the safety-related systems will offer the necessary risk reduction required to achieve safety for the equipment”.
“Product documentation including a SIL certificate and ‘safety manual’ provide the data and information to ensure that the product can be easily integrated into a SIL 2 system and installed operated according to the requirements of the certification,” comments Andy Avenell, Crowcon’s Senior Product Manager.
“Crowcon’s management systems ensure that IRmax continues to comply with the standards regardless of modifications during the product’s life- cycle,” he added.
Crowcon’s commitment to functional safety extends beyond product
design: key members of Crowcon’s R&D team are certified ‘Functional Safety Engineers’. A Crowcon engineer is also a member of the European committee currently updating the EN50402 standard.
