THE TRUS T FOR PUBLIC LAND: CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF C ONSER VING LAND FOR PEOPLE

forty years ago this fall, a handful of visionaries founded a new organi- zation to create parks and conserve land for people. Today, Land&People magazine is dedicated to telling that story—or rather, stories: how Trust for Public Land staff, volunteers, and partners build parks and protect treasured landscapes, improving quality of life in communities across the country.  Over the years we’ve told you about some of our biggest success- es: helping to preserve the street where Martin Luther King Jr. grew up in Atlanta, creating the Santa Fe Railyard Park + Plaza in New Mexico, and saving New York’s community gardens from the auction block. But there are no small projects; after all, every park in every neighborhood touches hundreds—if not thousands—of lives.  How do you illustrate 40 years of hard work, hundreds of neighborhoods transformed, millions of acres conserved, and countless lives changed? Turn the page to find out.
