Rosanna Dickinson of Make-up Fablicious chats to Irish Beauty about her work in the beauty industry and life out of it.
I ended up in the beauty industry because…While working with photography I noticed the make-up wore by most customers didn’t photograph well. It used to take me a long time to adjust photos as a result so I decided to train as a make-up artist and apply their make-up myself. From that to a working make-up artist was just a natural progression.
If I wasn’t in the beauty industry I would be…A writer! I enjoy the writing process and it fits with my need to be creative.
The best thing about my job is… Seeing how a simple thing such as make-up to suit a person’s complexion and features can make such a huge difference. I love the natural ‘wow’ response customers give upon seeing themselves looking their very best. I suppose it is the satisfaction of seeing someone happy that I love the most.
An average day for me…At the moment I am either working with our college, making sure everything is running smoothly in relation to the ITEC make-up courses we provide, or with the Photo Studio we have just opened to the public. It is amazing to see the amount of talent we have on the premises. As a working make-up artist the day varies very much; you could be doing a magazine cover working with a known face one day and a wedding the next.
My ideal weekend would be…I am very fit and active so the ideal weekend involves adventure and fitness during the day and seeing friends in the evening. Total bliss.
My favourite book is…The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. Such a beautiful story.

My favourite film is…The Matrix. It changed my life in some strange ways. After seeing the movie I decided to research the mind and developed a real interest in subconscious and conscious processes. Not so much as an academic quest, but as a way to change behaviours and one’s life for the better.
The most famous person I have met is…You come across a lot of known faces when you work in the beauty industry; with some you have to sign confidentiality agreements, with others the work is too visible. In terms of Irish celebrities, I think Rosanna Davison would be the most famous.
My favourite part of the world is…Hong Kong. I can’t wait to go back.
I could not live without…My make- up brushes.
My favourite beauty treatment is… I go for microdermabrasion every 28 days.
When growing up my role model was…My mother. She encouraged me to be happy, no matter what life threw at me, to be independent and to aim high.
I would like to be remembered as…Someone who worked, lived and loved as if every day was her last day.
