Datateam Business Media launches the Nursery Industry Awards

This year, the first Nursery Industry awards were launched by one of the largest independently owned publishers in the UK, Datateam Business Media. Designed to celebrate the nursery world, the event took place on the evening of Friday 26th October at the 5* Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington. Run by the industry for the industry, the Nursery Industry Awards is very different from anything that already exists in the sector and as such, has been welcomed by the trade.

How are these awards different? • A well tried and secure online Nomination and Voting process produced five finalists in each category with the winners being those who had attracted the most votes overall.

• No judging panel was required, which meant no possibility of opinion bias. Third party scrutiny ensured total credibility of the process. • Every Nomination was assessed by safety experts before going to the Voting stage.

The organisers received over 450 nominations and more than 2000 votes, culminating in an event attended by nearly 200 industry professionals. The awards were compered by comedian Ian Moore, who had everyone in fits of laughter throughout! The awards evening represented a real opportunity for companies to shine and unite in support, networking at what remains a crucial time in the trade's buying calendar. And network they did. Following a champagne reception, we were seated for the first round of awards, before taking a break for dinner. Conversation flowed over a three course meal served with fine wine, putting everyone in the party spirit for the second half! Feedback to the awards has been excellent and the organisers are already putting plans in place for next year.

Best Independent Retailer was sponsored by Tippitoes. Paul Walters, General Manager said:

"Congratulations to all the Winners on a successful evening. A well attended and thoroughly enjoyable event, the Nursery Industry Awards provided a brand new opportunity for the trade and I look forward to being part of it all again next year!"

Paul Walters (far right) with Winstanleys Pram World Nicole Muller, Portfolio Director, The Baby Show added: "We were delighted to be

a sponsor of the inaugural Nursery Industry Awards. This high-quality event provides a new and exciting perspective on what's hot in the baby market as all the winners have been chosen by the industry as a whole, rather than by a dedicated judging panel."

Nursery Online sponsored Best Marketing Campaign. Editor, Cathy Bryan said: "A lovely, enjoyable evening with good company. Congratulations to all the worthy winners."

SGS Technical Manager, Melvyn Wolf worked with the team from a safety perspective. He said: "The Nursery Industry Awards evening was a great success and it afforded me the opportunity to talk to people from right across the industry and it was certainly gratifying to hear of their commitment to safety by design. This type of event goes a long way to spreading the word."
