T e fi ve-person team is composed of 2010 Paralympian Patrick McDon-
ald (Madison, Wis.); David Palmer (Mashpee, Mass.), a member of Team USA in 2012; two-time Paralympian Jimmy Joseph (New Hartford, N.Y.); Penny Greely (Green Bay, Wis.), a member of the last two world teams and a 2004 Paralympic bronze medalist in sitting volleyball; and 28-year-old Meghan Lino (East Falmouth, Mass.), who will make her debut as a mem- ber of the national team. T ese fi ve athletes will represent Team USA at the 2013 World Wheel-
chair Curling Championship on Feb. 16-23 in Sochi, Russia. T e team is coached by Steve Brown (Madison, Wis.) and Rusty Schieber (Portage, Wis.) with Marc Deperno (Deerfi eld, N.Y.) as team leader. T ese athletes will be given top consideration to be nominated to the
2014 U.S. Paralympic Team, which will compete in Sochi, Russia, on March 7-16, 2014. T e fi ve Paralympic athletes will be offi cially named in Decem- ber 2013. Team USA fi nished fi ſt h at last year's world wheelchair event and secured essential qualifying points for the U.S. for the 2014 Paralympic Games. T e

Americans are in good shape to earn a berth for the Paralympic Games as they are in sixth place in the qualifi cation standings and will earn a minimum of a single qualifi cation point by competing in the 2013 world championship. Countries earn points at the three world wheelchair cham- pionships in the lead-up to the Paralympic Winter Games. T e 10 qualifi ed nations will be formally announced aſt er the 2013 world event. T e fi rst World Wheelchair Championship began in 2002 and it debuted as a Para- lympic winter sport in 2006. T e Americans won bronze at the 2008 world championship and fi nished fourth at the 2010 Paralympic Games. ■
Hometown/Curling Club: Madison, Wis./Madison Curling Club. Patrick moved from California to Wisconsin to train closer to Team USA’s coaches.
International experience: Patrick will make his third appearance at the world wheelchair championship.
