Find an All-American event

By Judi Page, All-American Chairwoman All-American events are an opportunity for

eligible curlers, regardless of the league in which they curl, their expertise and/or experience, or what position they play. USWCA women are eligible to play in the All-American event held at their club. In some clubs, All-American is held as an open event. For those you who may be unfamiliar with

the USWCA-sponsored All-American Bonspiel, here are the details: Te All-American is an inner-club bon-

spiel held during the curling season by clubs throughout the United States and sponsored by

the USWCA – the United States Women’s Curl- ing Association. Tey provide participants with beautiful First Event pins and record all winners on the USWCA website and report them to the U.S. Curling News. Te sole purpose of this bonspiel is to give all

our curlers – especially new and less experienced women – a chance to experience the fun and companionship of an actual bonspiel. If you are unsure whether your club will be

holding an All-American event this year or if you want information about how to hold the event, check with your club’s USWCA representative or inquire at “Contact Us” on the USWCA website at www.USWCA.org. n

Madison, Wis., for our annual fall meeting. Te meetings were both energizing and infor- mative, with networking and great ideas ex- changed. Strategic planning is providing many positive changes and gives new focus for the coming years as we put our plans into action. One of my goals as president of the USWCA

T

is to advance our website, making it more user- friendly and a resource not only for the US- WCA events and information, but for the gen- eral curling audience. Te website is key to our communications. It is the face of our future. I have established an ad hoc Governance

Committee. In keeping with our strategic plan, this group will think outside the box. We re- view all of our processes, determine how to best utilize our volunteers, and maximize our finances. Tis will be a short-term focus group composed of past presidents, strategic planning committee members, first- and second-vice presidents, and myself. Our purpose will be to formulate new strategic goals for our Executive Board. I am very excited about the future of the USWCA. We are on the verge of realizing many of the plans and goals we have previously set forth. I am so pleased to be able to work together

with the USCA in a spirit of cooperation. We do so many things at the grassroots level that sup- ports the USCA’s agenda. Te USWCA has the oldest National Bonspiel in the United States. In 2013 it will be our 65th

he women of the USWCA are a hard- working and innovative group. We met the weekend of Sept. 21-23 in

bonspiel without ex-

ception. Te Senior Women’s Bonspiel offers a different venue for more seasoned curlers. And, Te Circuit, our newest event, offers grassroots curlers a chance to compete at a bit higher com- petitive level within our organization. I look forward to working with all of you this

year to promote the sport we love so much – curling. n
