MASTERCARD’S GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OFFICE TO BE BASED IN DUBLIN
MasterCardWorldwide is to base its newglobal office for the company’s technology operations in Dublin. This expansionwill create
an additional 130 highly skilled jobs during the next four years, bringing the total num- ber of peopleemployed in Ire- land to approximately 200. “At our core,MasterCard is
a technology company that happens to be in the payments space,” saidRobReeg, presi- dent,MasterCardTechnolo- gies. “Our focus as a company is on offering innovative, game-changing technologies that offermass appeal for our global customers and card- holders.We’re confident that this larger office in Dublin, as well as the newtechnology teammembers thatwe plan to hire,will help further our technology agenda and innova- tion vision.” The Dublin office has been
designated asMasterCard’s Centre of Excellence for Java development and the com- pany’s inControl platform teamwill be based there. In addition, Dublin is one of the four key locations forMaster- Card Labs, the company’sR&D function taskedwith bringing innovative products and serv- ices tomarket quickly.
HP INVESTING €45M IN R&D EXPANSION
HPhas announced a€45minvest- ment in anR&Dexpansion over the next three years thatwill lead to the creation of 280 newjobs in Leixlip andGalway. The company will create 150 re-
search and development jobs across its Irish operations to support global mar- kets, as well as up to 130 new technical and support roles as a result of this ex- pansion. The new recruits will be working on
a range of projects that will build, test and deploy large scale systems using technologies like cloud based infra- structures and multiple delivery chan- nels (mobile, video, social media). “Both Galway and Leixlip are centres
of excellence within HP and Irish-based engineers are increasingly developing new leading edge capabilities servicing the needs of clients in the USA, China, India, Europe and Asia,” said Martin Murphy, HP Ireland managing director. “This announcement marks a further
deepening of HP’s investment in Ire- land and our new recruits will join teams developing technologies and processes for global markets that will play a major part of HP’s future.”
MICROSOFT EXPANDING DUBLIN DATA CENTRE IN US$130M INVESTMENT
Microsoft is investingUS$130min expanding its data centre inDublin. This investment builds on the origi- nalUS$500m investmentMi- crosoft has alreadymade in the Dublin data centre,which has been operational since July 2009, provid- ing computing capacity to cus- tomers acrossEurope, theMiddle East andAfrica (EMEA). “This investment showswherewe
are placing our bets for the future,” notedMicrosoft’s chief financial of- ficerPeterKlein, during a visit to Dublin.He said the company is in- vesting in regional cloud infrastruc- ture tomeet the needs of customers embracingMicrosoft cloud services. “We are delighted to build on the
long history ofMicrosoft invest- ment and partnership in Ireland, starting in
1985.Aswe expand our Dublin data centre,we remain com- mitted to efficiency and sustainabil- ity.Our expanded facilitywill be 50pcmore efficient than traditional data centres, andwill use renewable wind energywhen available.”
AMAZON CREATING OVER 100 TECHNOLOGY JOBS IN DUBLIN
Amazon is to create over 100 newhigh-end engineering and software jobs at its develop- ment centre inKilmainham,Dublin. The centre,whichwas set up in 2005, is home to a teamof engineers and developerswhich supports the design and deployment ofAmazon websites. The centre also hosts anAmazonWeb Services (AWS) developer support teamwhich provides technical assistance for customers using applications likeAmazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3),Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), Amazon RelationalDatabase Service (Amazon RDS),AmazonDynamoDB, andAmazon CloudFront.
WORKDAY EXPANDING EXISTING OPERATION TO CREATE 100 NEWJOBS
