75,000 sq feet andmore than doublesMerit’s capacity in Galway. The jobs createdwill be in
R&D, shared services, opera- tions support andmanufactur- ing,with at least 30pc of the newjobs being for third-level graduates.
ZMDI ESTABLISHES LIMERICK R&D DESIGN CENTRE
Semiconductor company ZMDI is establishing an R&D design centre in Limerick, which will create 35 highly skilled engineering positions for grad- uatesandtechniciansoverthenext five years. The centre will focus on the develop-
ment of products for the smart power management sector, a key growth area driven by the demand for increased en- ergy efficiency in data centre cooling, telecommunications and high-end com- puting. “After considering a number of global
locations for this strategically important R&D centre, we decided that Limerick was theperfect fit for our companydue to the research expertise in the University of Limerick, the availability of engineer- ingskills, the clusterofmanyleadingplay- ers in electronics in the region and the support of IDA Ireland,” said Bernhard Huber,ZMDI’s business linemanager.

SAP EXPANDING DUBLIN AND GALWAY FACILITIES

SAP is creating 250 jobs in Dublin and Galway in a €110m investment. The
company,
which currently em- ploys 1,200 people in Ireland, plans to create 150 jobs within its serv- ices, sales and global sup- port functions atCitywest in
Dublin.Afurther 100 jobswill be located at its Galway facility,
providing additional resources for its newly created Cloud Services & Support Centre. Liam Ryan, managing director
at SAP Ireland, said the com- pany’s Irish operations have been highly successful since it first es- tablished a facility here in 1997. The newprojectswill gear SAP up for the company’s next wave of technology innovation to meet business needs in the areas of cloud computing, mobile applica- tions and high performing data- base technology, he added.
TOTAL DEFENSE LOCATES EUROPEAN HUB IN DUBLIN
Internet security company Total Defense is setting up a European operations hub in Dublin. The company has taken on 21
people so far in its new Ballsbridge facility and anticipates the centre could grow to 100 people to support its growing European business. Additional staff are being recruited in the areas of inside sales, opera- tions and customer support. Formerly the internet security
business unit of CA Technologies, Total Defense develops and markets anti-virus and anti-crimeware soft- ware for business and consumer markets.
