Water supply | project study
have led to severe water shortages in some parts of the state. Over the past decade, it has experienced three severe drought years and in the worst affected areas – the Saurashtra and Kutch regions – the authorities have had to resort to delivering water by tanker. A major infrastructure project has been devised by
the Gujarat Water Infrastructure company to alleviate these supply difficulties. It will see some 432km of coated steel water pipe ranging from 1.8m to 2.5m diameter installed. Coating of the pipe is currently underway at three pipe coating facilities in Gujarat operated by PSL, Welspun and Hazira Pipe Mills. The coating contracts are scheduled to be completed by the end of the year, according to Borouge. All of the pipe will use the company’s Borcoat HE3450 top coat resin, with a significant part of the contract also using its ME0420 adhesive system. Borealis says it expects the Gujarat Water Infra-
structure project to become a reference for 3LPE coatings for water pipelines in the region and predicts it will lead to a considerable increase in future demand for the coating system from the Indian water industry. ❙
