AMI’s Pipeline Coating
conference has established itself as a
major meeting point for the industry
The pipeline industry is advancing at a rapid pace. In both the oil and gas industry and the water distribution sector, projects designed to secure supplies are attracting considerable pipeline investment. Current and future trends in the steel pipeline protection industry will be outlined at the fi fth AMI Pipeline Coating conference in Austria in February by Noru Tsalic, AMI’s consultant specialist in this sector. Meanwhile, the specifi c challenges being faced by oilfi eld operators will be addressed by André Koebesch, part of the Petrobras engineering team in Brazil. Speakers at the 2013 conference will address the
increasingly hostile conditions faced by suppliers to the oil and gas sector, such as high levels of sulphur. Ashrim Mishra and Ashwani Soni, senior engineer and executive director respectively of Engineers India will present a case study on a pipeline for high sulphur oil transport, while John Fang, president of Shanghai Hilong Shine New Material, will talk about a new fl uorine-modifi ed epoxy. NOV Tuboscope manager of global pipe products Michael Adams will present an analysis of internal plastic coatings for protection of injection and produc- tion fl ow lines in the US oil industry. And Nikolai Cherkasov, general director of Russia’s SCR “Poisk” will discuss a new coating material the company has tested for a major energy operator. Outside of the oil and gas industry, coatings are also
used to protect potable drinking water supplies. BS Coatings Axson Group marketing and business development director Pascal Collet will present a review of the available internal linings for potable applications,

while Jai Purohit, head of pipe and coating plant operations at Essar Steel India, will explain its use of food grade liquid epoxy internally on 80 and 92 inch diameter pipes with external three-layer PE coatings for water distribution. Field joint coating developments will be covered by Nabil Hamdy, coating section head at Egypt’s Petrojet, who will present a comparison study the company has recently completed. Shawcor’s coatings group leader Catherine Lam will present its new chemically-modifi ed pipe coating with enhanced compatibility with a fi eld joint coating system, while Berry Plastics’ Stopaq Indus- tries director Laurent Grodziski will outline its new mobile coating technology.
