Food Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecote ~ by Marianne Kinsella

his little French gem can be found on King Street in Manchester City centre. Now as most residents of the city may know this is a hot spot for restaurants with Jamie’s and Rosso’s also located here, which begs the question, can another restaurant survive as well? Especially without a vegetarian option! This is, as mentioned, a French restaurant yet one with a twist! A restaurant where only one starter may be severed, where only one main is on the menu! Can this work?!

T

Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecôte, the epitome of French charm and a true Parisian bistro in style in the building vacated by Emprio Armani on King Street.

Monsieur Gineste de Saurs founded the original Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecôte in Paris 52 years ago, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, near Porte Maillot, with the intention of developing a market for the wines produced by his family’s Château de Saurs winery near Toulouse in South West France. Little did he know back then that his Parisian eatery would be replicated in London, New York and now Manchester! So to answer my previous question, YES it really can work!

The interior of this restaurant is not the typical. It’s rather grand walls, ornaments and bar are beautiful coupled with the high ceilings. Yet the tables are very basic, and I’m quite confident that they couldn’t squeeze anymore in if they tried! To say it was a little cramped is an understatement and I am quite grateful for our 6pm early dine so any elbow bashing was avoided!

The waitress then handed us a wine list from which we chose the recommended Chateau Le Grand Verdus Bordeaux Supérier 2008 priced at a very reasonable £22.50. The red adequately accompanied

all elements of our meal.

There was only one question left for the waitress to ask…”How do you like your steak?”.. I

had my usual of medium/rare and my

companion chose rare. Then, she took her pen and drew a line down the paper tablecloth jotting an M on my side of the line and a R on the other.
