Art Review

The Map of My Entire life, by Rob Ryan forces us to think about our mortality and existence here on earth in his three metre single paper-cut scene.

Some artists chose to make their creations from paper already in existence - books, maps, paper currency, even a brown paper bag from Burger King! Others made their own paper from base materials such as seaweed and textile fibres.

Tiny delicate creations like ‘Looking Back’ by Peter Callesen who creates miniature sculptures from white A4 office paper, sit alongside bold and imposing works such as Andreas Kocks creations which feature huge pieces of graphite on watercolour paper. The First Cut explores the breadth of this versatile and adaptable material, making a huge effort to demonstrate the countless ways in which paper can be refashioned and presented.
