The story of two shoots in two days...

W

eeks before shooting, the planning began with Kayti and me emailing each other ideas and location

options. This is always one of the most enjoyable parts of editorials, as we spend hours cooing over photos, clothes and models, dreaming fashion dreams. Once we’ve made a few decisions, it’s time to put our ideas in to action; contacting PRs, make-up artists and model agencies are just a few of the stressful necessities!

As the date of the shoot

drew closer, the creativity sparks began to fly. Kayti got to work on paper flowers while I began customising sunglasses. It was more ‘newspaper and glue guns’ than ‘glitz and glamour’, but all an essential part of the final outcome. While the majority of prep was for the outdoor shoot, I also spent an afternoon rummaging around in a band studio. The band Waiters and Freedom Screech very kindly leant us equipment, so I searched their studio high and low for suitable guitars and amps to accessorize our Currently Coveting girl. The final two days before the shoot were when I hit the shops, spending hours with personal shoppers, PR and marketing folk signing out stock and lugging bags.

The Diary

Day two and another 7:30am start. We arrived to find Caroline (an early bird) already at work, making Zana look fabulous. Several bottles of Lucozade later (caffeine is an essential ingredient when styling)

it was

time for me to get the ‘bling’ out and let Zana rock her looks. The day was high energy and Kayti shot whilst dancing to Michael Jackson.

Day one and it was an early start for the team as Gemma, Rebecca and I bundled into the car at 7:30am and headed to York, while Celia headed to the early morning flower market. Kayti had been doing a sundance the night before and as a result we were blessed with beautiful weather. The day went fabulously with Tanya, as always, looking otherworldly elegant. Rebecca stood in last minute for hair and make-up, saving our bacon and doing a superb job! So, several hundred frames later (Kayti is the fastest photographer in the North) it was 6:30pm and the time had come to head back to Manchester, reload and get our brains in to studio shoot mode.

The great team meant the day flew by and we were ready to leave the studio at 5:00pm, almost needing a boat to get down the M1 after a day of torrential rain!

Once the shoots were done, it was down to the final details. Kayti began editing and I had to return the stock, while battling against strong winds and the seemingly endless pouring rain. There is always huge excitement waiting for the final edited images, which thanks to Kayti, we were ruddy delighted with. She is the Usain Bolt of photography; speedy and fantastic!
