CHAPTER CORNER

NYPCMA’s Education Day

The NYPCMA Chapter held its annual Education Day — an interactive program focused on reconnecting with industry professionals, peer learning, and the skills necessary to succeed in today’s job market — on Sept. 14 at Sentry Centers in New York City. During the program, which provided attendees with CEU credits, the NYPCMA Awards Committee, led by Chapter President Rocco LaForgia, CASE, director of sales, worldwide accounts for Hilton Worldwide, presented the Outstanding Partner/Sponsor Award to Michelle Nicoletti, director of worldwide accounts for Hyatt Hotels Corporation, for her many years of service as “Queen of Menus & Venues” for the chapter. “Hyatt Hotels has been an avid supporter of NYPCMA for many years,” LaForgia said. “This is only the second year the Outstanding Partner Award has been in existence, and NYPCMA is proud to honor Hyatt and Michelle Nicoletti for their never-wavering commitment to us and the industry.”

Be an Advocate for Meetings

As meeting professionals, no one knows better than PCMA members the importance of conferences, trade shows, and other live events — to individuals and organizations, and to the U.S. economy as a whole. In order to confirm its support for the industry, PCMA will feature an Advocacy Central area in the Learning Lounge at Convening Leaders 2013. The Advocacy activation and engagement booth area will be a place where attendees can champion the industry by signing a support statement as well as having the opportunity to send their own written message to the elected officials in their home areas. Sponsored by advocacy specialists Revent LLC, Advocacy Central is a call to action for PCMA members to come together to show support for the industry that sustains them and so many others.

The Foundation

Presents The PCMA Education Foundation will present three educational sessions at Convening Leaders 2013 based on new research funded by the Foundation with the generous support of its donors. Each session will be worth one clock hour (0.1) CEU.

“What Millennials Want From Meetings and Events” will discuss the findings of PCMA’s research on this generation’s attitudes and expectations — teaching attendees how to attract and engage members of this group of emerging leaders. Co-presenters are George Fenich, professor at the School of Hospitality Leadership at East Carolina University, and Godwin- Charles Ogbeide, associate professor at the University of Arkansas.

An interactive session, “Meetology: Using Science to Design Effective Meetings,” will reveal 40 science-based tips — including information on nutrition and body language — that can help planners design more effective meetings.

And “Reinventing Convention Exhibits and Trade Shows for the Future” will reveal the Foundation’s findings in its collaborative investigation with ASAE, IAEE, Freeman, and Gaylord of the future of conventions and trade shows. Attendees will gain insight into improving their exhibits, ensuring that they stay fresh and engaging, attracting crowds show after show.
