New IDC wire-to-board connectors expand 9159 SMT connector flexibility

AVX Corporation, a manufacturer of passive components and interconnect solutions, has expanded its 9159 Series of SMT connectors with the addition of IDC wire-to-board plug and socket connectors. The new 9159 Series IDC connectors enable a more reliable, and cost- effective termination of 22-24AWG discrete or cabled power and signal wires into standard 9159 Series two-piece connectors systems, in turn maximising their flexibility by providing them with wire-to-board capabilities.

Designed to solve packaging issues in the

broad industrial and solid-state lighting markets, the new, miniature IDC plug and socket connectors carry up to 5A per contact, can function at up to 125°C for extended periods, and enable co-planar PCB mating, which is characteristic of the PCB arrangement in linear strip lighting used in applications ranging from office lighting to harsh-environment transportation applications. Other applications that can benefit from the new connectors include: portable commercial and industrial handheld terminals, scanners, and meters; medical devices, such as patient monitoring and drug-dispending devices; and industrial electronic modules and controls.

The 9159 Series IDC connectors feature wire assembly support blocks that enable the single- step termination of two through six wires with any standard bench-top press, gold-plated BeCu contact systems for high reliability in harsh environments, and integrally molded latches, which provide positive latching during mating. Rated for 5A per contact, 125VAC, 10 cycles, and use in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +125°C, the new connectors also provide both through (daisy-chain) and wire-stop termination options.

RJ45 and USB connection in D38999 and AB05 formats from Aerco

The RJ45 and USB connectors are now available from Aerco in D38999 and AB05 formats allowing high performance interconnect for Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat 6a and USB 2.0. This combination of the functionality of these widely used technologies with the known quality and ruggedness of military standard connectors makes them suitable for use in some of the toughest of environments. These high speed RJ45 and USB connector systems incorporate an ABAC (MIL-DTL-38999 series III) or AB05 (MIL- DTL-26482) derived metal shell with full 360° EMC, IP68 sealing and mechanical protection and have been designed to meet the requirements of high speed data connections where reliability, environmental sealing and enhanced mechanical protection are essential.

These connectors are suitable for use in applications in areas such as defence, aerospace, robotics, industrial process control, CNC machines, motion control, advanced motorway signage systems and mass transit vehicles.

D38999 connectors are supplied with a high

performance RJ connector that is matched to the D38999 housing to guarantee all mechanical, environmental and electrical performance ensuring consistent grounding and strain relief for up to 10Gb/s transmission in 10GBASE-T networks. USB interconnection is provided with pre-assembled, matched, moulded patch cable ensuring consistent results for data rates up to 480 Mb/s associated with USB 2.0.

Aerco | www.aerco.co.uk Industrial connector module offers high-voltage transmission with minimum space requirement

A new high-voltage single module has been added to the HARTING Han- Modular(R) industrial connector series, allowing the transmission of extremely high voltages with a minimum space requirement. The Han(R) HV single module incorporates TEFLON material to provide high- voltage insulation, allowing a Han(R) 24 B connector, for example, to be designed with up to 12 power contacts rated at 16 A and 2500 V. The module can also be combined with signal and pneumatic modules. The new connector module features a high working voltage of 2500 V, and is based on a space-saving design with two power contacts per module. It uses

crimp terminal technology, and can handle conductor cross sections of between 0.14 and 4 mm”. HARTING’s Han-Modular(R) series, as an open connector system, can provide flexible configuration to the users’ individual requirements. It gives the user the freedom to assemble a customised connector from a range of more than 40 modules for electrical, optical and gaseous signals. The module range is continually expanded, allowing new configurations to be realised.
