New audio connector innovations from Cliff Electronics
CLIFF Electronics has unveiled two new innovative connector products which offer pro- audio manufacturers and live music producers solutions to longstanding problems. The products include a new family of Airtight XLR sockets developed primarily for active loudspeaker manufacturers which are common in studio monitoring and similar hi-fidelity audio applications.
Air leakage from conventional connectors is
recognised as an acoustic problem in high quality loudspeaker design, particularly the “infinite baffle” types often found in recording studio and broadcast applications.
The new airtight XLR connecter family from
Cliff provides a cost and labour saving solution to possible air leakage affecting speaker fidelity. These connectors are inherently gas tight and supplied with a flange sealing gasket which promotes an efficient seal between the flange and mounting panel further helping to seal the mounting holes. The airtight XLR and its gasket are designed for both front and rear panel mounting and are available in 3 pin horizontal PCB, vertical PCB and solder bucket versions. The second new Cliff connector is the Cliffcon
π” JumboJack Plug which provides stage performers a solution to the problem of connecting high-current carrying, large section audio cables to conventional π” audio jack plugs. In many professional sound installations it will
be necessary to link equipment with low resistance cables and the new Cliffcon π” JumboJack plug can accept cable diameters of up to 15mm while still allowing these large diameter cables to be connected to conventional π” jack plug contacts. The JumboJack is available with both straight and right angled robust ergonomic body shells ensuring easy handling and fitting of cables. Connection is via screw type cable clamps and features integral cable strain-relief grommet which may be adapted to suit the size of the cable diameter being used.

Molex launches portable hand-held wire crimp pull-force tester
Molex Incorporated has launched a Hand-Held Wire Crimp Pull-Force Tester, a manual, hand- operated digital pull tester that delivers accurate pull-force readings required to verify crimp quality. Designed for contract manufacturers and harness houses, the device measures accurate pull strengths on a wide range of crimped terminals and wires, providing consistent verification of crimp pull force and reducing potential quality issues. “Our Hand-Held Wire Crimp Pull-Force Tester can be used in any situation requiring a portable solution to verify crimp quality, including applications in the automotive, commercial, contract manufacturing, design/engineering facilities and industrial marketplaces,” said Bob Grenke, product manager, Molex. The Hand-Held Wire Crimp Pull-Force Tester comes standard with both a wheel-type clamp featuring multiple slot sizes for wire diameters up to 6.35mm and a clamp-style holder for open- barrel products. The manual hand-cycle lever automatically grips the wire, providing an
accurate measurement of the crimp pull strength on a wide range of wire sizes and terminals including crimped, soldered or solderless. It comes with multiple power plugs and a digital output that displays measurement settings in pound force (lbf), kilogram force (kgf) and Newton (N), making the Hand-Held Wire Crimp Pull-Force Tester ideal for global use. It is shipped with AC rechargeable adapters for 120 and 230V AC power supplies and a calibration certificate (NIST).

Harwin adds IDC to popular space-saving Archer 1.27mm pitch connector family
Harwin, the hi-rel connector and SMT PCB hardware manufacturer is expanding its successful high density 1.27mm pitch Archer M50 connector portfolio with the addition of four new product series- including, for the first time, IDC cable connectors - plus associated cable assemblies. Two ejector headers in both through-hole solder tail and surface mount options are available; surface mount devices are Tape and Reel packaged providing fast, reliable, automated placement. Additional IDC DIP transition-style connectors and IDC socket connectors complete the enhanced connector line up. Designed to provide fast, reliable and cost effective connection using fine pitch 0.635mm ribbon cable without the use of special dedicated tooling, IDC connectors are ideal for medium to high volume cable-to-board connection. Complementing the range extensions, Harwin is also offering a number of different 150 &
