Products Machine building/frameworks & safety Electric toothed belt axis

New from Festo is the ELGA, a robust and rigid electric toothed belt axis. Offering high feed forces and flexible motor attachments, this linear drive integrates a plain- bearing guided belt drive which is suitable for positioning lighter loads quickly.

The belt drive is protected by a magnetically attached stainless steel cover to guard against the ingress of dust.

It has a service life of up to 5000km, is available in three

profile widths – 70, 80 and 120mm – and provides high force feeds of up to 1300N at speeds of up to 5m/s and acceler- ations of up to 50 m/s2. The axis can be specified in working lengths of up to 8.5m. Festo Enter 215 T: 01252 775000 www.festo.com

Interface module for series connection of safety switches

New from Pilz is the interface module PDP20 F 4 mag, which is said by the company to be ideal for series connection of safety switches, such as tongue interlocks or magnetic safety switches, up to PL e. Providing a standard-compliant solution in

accordance with EN ISO 13849-1, the module can be connected to dual-channel evaluation

devices, with up to four switches connected to each PDP20 module. Each module has four dual-channel inputs and two solid-state safe outputs (OSSDs), one diagnostic solid state output and two test pulsed outputs. To cascade multiple modules, the OSSDs of one are fed into one of the dual-channel inputs of the next PDP20 module. Pilz Automation Technology

New safety system guards machinery

Light and medium industrial machine guarding applications will bene- fit from Rockwell Automation’s SC300 Hand Detection safety sensor. This Type 3, SIL 2, IEC 62061, PLd EN ISO 13849-1 Vision-Based Protective Device (VBPD) uses image-processing technology to detect the intrusion of objects through its detection window. The safety-sensing function is performed by a single image sensing device, which views a two-dimensional image against a passive pattern. The detection principle is based on an object of a certain resolution blocking the image-sensing device’s view of the pattern. Easy to install and set up, the device can be used for frame openings ranging from 400 x 400mm up to 1500 x 1500mm and offers a 20ms response. Furthermore, its small size and detection offset allows it to be mounted on the inside or outside corner of a frame opening. The unit is used in conjunction with special reflective tape – 24mm for openings of 400mm to 1m and 30mm for openings of 600mm to 1.5m – which defines the boundaries of the sensing field. The device automatically detects the reflective tape when the external teach stylus or integrated key switch is used to perform the teach function.

For larger openings, two SC300 sensors can be mounted back to back and synchronised so that the maximum opening size can be doubled to 3m. It is also possible to synchronise two SC300s at right angles to each other in order to provide detection on two sides of an opening. Rockwell Automation T: 0870 242 5004
