Frito-Lay and Innovia Films resolve patent rights issue
Frito-Lay North America Inc and Innovia Films Ltd have resolved their legal issue over the patent rights for bio-
based multi-layer films. The companies achieved a
mutually agreeable outcome, ensuring a strong patent position for Frito-Lay and the ability for Innovia Films to practice under the patents including the use or resale of Innovia’s products by its global customers for bio- based multi-layer films.
“We are very pleased that we
have been able to resolve this issue in an open and constructive manner," comments David Beeby, CEO, Innovia Films. “Furthermore, it means that Innovia is able to accelerate the product development and supply of its NatureFlex renewable and compostable films for bio-based multi-layer applications.”

Davis-Standard opens new facility in China
Davis-Standard’s new manufacturing facility in Suzhou, China is officially open for business. The plant represents the company’s commitment to fully support customers in the Asia-Pacific region. “Having worked in China for 12 years I can confidently say this was a benchmark project," says
CEO Bob Preston. "The decision to open a facility was made in February this year and we are up and running seven months later - made possible by the outstanding coordination between our Asia-Pacific and US teams as well as the Chinese government. Expanding our regional capabilities is something our customers are requesting - and we are listening.” The new facility will support sales, technical support, equipment production, aftermarket and service programs and start-up operations. It will also feature research and development equipment for customer trials. “Our president of Asia-Pacific Fred Pereira is doing an excellent job of aggressively expanding our regional
