Dec. 4–6 CHAPTER CORNER POWER Roundtables
On Aug. 29, the POWER Chapter — represent- ing the Pittsburgh, Ohio, West Virginia, and Erie, Pa., region — presented four simultaneous technology roundtables. Discussions in four cities focused on conference mobile apps, Twitter, mobile ratings and survey technology, webinars, webcasting, and videoconferencing. At the offices of Positively Cleveland,
Timothy J. LaFleur, CMP, manager of innova- tive mobility solutions for Meetings & Incen- tives, moderated a roundtable that discussed an application you can use for “push to talk” on your phone; why it’s not advantageous for a CVB to invest in its own app to accommodate groups it hosts; the lack of consistency in app pricing; why planners need to know the wire- less bandwith and speed of a venue’s network; and how speakers can use technology to deliver presentations from their cell phones. The other three POWER roundtables took
place at the offices of the Northern Kentucky CVB in Covington, the Ohio State Bar Asso- ciation in Columbus, and the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh.

North American Advisory Summit
The PCMA North American Advisory Summit, at the Mazatlan Convention Center in Mazatlan, Mexico, on Nov. 4–6, will explore Mexico’s infrastructure and competitiveness as compared to other North American destinations. Presented by PCMA and the Mexico Tourism Board, the summit will advise a group of experienced planners and supplier executives how to advance their business and attract new clients from the United States and Canada. The program, geared toward the
Mexican hospitality community, will fea- ture around 15 advisory board members — CVB and convention-center CEOs and meeting professionals, including Katie Callahan-Giobbi, executive vice president of Minding Your Business Inc.; Robert Lander, president and CEO of the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau; and Kati Quigley, CMP, senior director of worldwide partner community events for Microsoft Corporation.

Serving Together
The first week in November, PCMA encourages members to come together and give back to their local communities on behalf of the meetings industry. This year, Service in Sync will take place Nov. 3–13. Each PCMA chapter can choose its own project. Last year, the staff at PCMA headquarters held a bowling event that raised more than $1,100 for the Greater Chicago Food Bank, while five members of the New England Chapter served 170 people for lunch at a soup kitchen — and another four members put together 400 food backpacks for needy children, among many other projects. What will your chapter do this year?
