New Jersey Nights PHOTOGRAPHY BY STEVE BARRY

LEFT: Bob Baker (who is not an SMS employ- ee, but is a local rail enthusiast) poses on ex-Reading caboose No. 94070. Many SMS employees live a distance away and cabooses are on the property as bunkhouses.

BELOW: Baldwin DRS4-4-1000 No. 9069 pos- es with VO1000 No. 412 in the Pureland In- dustrial Park in Bridgeport. No. 9069 is paint- ed in its authentic Pennsylvania Railroad livery. No. 412 is actually an ex-U.S. Navy unit owned by the United Railroad Historical Soci- ety of New Jersey. The Navy donated the unit to URHS with the stipulation that it could not remain in military paint; the URHS painted the 412 to represent the Baltimore & Ohio in its collection. The URHS leases its equipment to operators that will restore and operate the equipment throughout the state.
