New York Central heriage unit No. 1066 rolls through Eckman, Ind., on August 12, 2012. The digital card that contained this photo would be lost for over a week until it was recovered by “Indiana Jim” at the spot where editor Barry managed to fumble it in the dark.

out in the elements. I just wanted it back. Jim arrived at the Squaw Creek Southern on Monday, August 20, and started search- ing. he wasn’t having any luck, but he called me on his cell phone. As I said, I knew pret- ty much where I dropped the card, so I called up Google Maps’ satellite view on my com- puter and using landmarks guided Jim to the spot where I thought I dropped it. He looked down and there it was!

Indiana Jim mailed the card back to New Jersey, I loaded it into the computer, and —

voila—I had my NYC shots back. The chase started at the levee at New Albany, Ind., then proceeded to the tunnel at Maplewood. Maplewood where about 20 photographers jockeyed for space where there was room for about five. We continued along this ex- Southern Railway main line (which runs to Huntingburg), finally breaking off the chase at Eckman (above).

What was briefly extreme disappoint- ment turned into a happy ending, thanks to Indiana Jim.—S.B.
