Late Trains Get Later
At least that’s how the old saying goes. We were in the process of adjusting production schedules to get cover dates and calendar months more in line with each other — for instance, a lot of subscribers would get their July issue of R&R in mid-May. The plan was to get the November issue (the one you are reading now) out around November 1... Then along came Superstorm Sandy. Power was knocked out at the Carstens of- fice for over a week with both R&R and sis- ter magazine RAILROAD MODEL CRAFTSMAN sitting at the printing plant awaiting ap- provals. The days of paper proofs are gone — all approvals are done via internet. With no power at the office, we had no way to get the approvals made, and both magazines missed their print slots at the printer. With the glut of Christmas catalogs at the printer, finding a new print slot for RMC first and us second proved to be tough. RMC was delayed a couple of weeks, but we got pushed back to after Thanksgiving. Here we are now, though, and we’ll be working our way back on track towards what we were initially aiming for —getting out around the first of the month of the cover date.
