New Company Enters the Hobby Market
On September 1, 2012, Microaces LTD made its debut by launching four new micro scale aircraft kits designed for four-channel radio control. Microaces has developed a completely new and innovative type of kit based around the Spektrum® AR6400 and AR6400L Ultra Micro receivers. The kits are comprised of advanced materials already commonplace in the hobby market such as Depron® Aero and carbon fiber, but also introduce a newly developed covering material that gives their kits a unique method of construction and an incredibly detailed finish, even at 1⁄24 scale. The Focke Wulf kit (shown here) builds into an ARF aircraft of 16-inch
wing span, only requiring a Spektrum ultra micro receiver and compatible transmitter to complete the build and get airborne. The kits are also available as an airframe so you can fit your own compatible motor and ESC or swap and share equipment between Microaces aircraft.
But the real ace in Microaces is the introduction of a lightweight self-adhesive film that covers the aircraft, which is easy to handle and very strong as well as capable of accepting hi-resolution print.
The kits retail for around $56 for the Standard version, which includes the 1.7- gram aileron servo and around $84 for the Deluxe version, which includes the AP05 brushless motor and XP-7A speed controller. All that is required to complete is an AR6400 or AR6400L receiver and compatible transmitter. Shipping from the UK is under $10 for up to four kits.
In flight the Microaces kits live up to their looks. Powered by an AP05 5000 Kv brushless motor turning a GWS 5030 prop, their performance is certainly more scale
than a screaming rocket but with external tanks and undercarriage detached, the agility and aerobatic performance is certainly a match for the aircraft to emulate.
