Santry Community Garden Celebrating Natural Heritage
Santry Community Garden Team recently welcomed Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Cian O’Callaghan, to meet garden members and enjoy a tour of the 4 ½ acre site which has been brought back to life over the past 2 years by a team of committed volunteers with the support of Fingal County Council.
Residents Show True Pride of Place
The communities of Skerries, Balscadden and Baldoyle proudly represented Fingal County Council in the 2012 Pride of Place Competition, run by Co-operation Ireland and supported by Fingal County Council, as judges visited each town in July.
Skerries competed this year in the Best Previous Winner category, having taken first prize for Fingal in 2006. The village of Balscadden was competing for the first time in the category of towns with a population of between 500 and 1000. Baldoyle community garden, supported by Fingal County Council and Baldoyle Family Resource Centre, was entered in a specialist category. Winners will be announced at a national event in Limerick in November.

To celebrate Heritage Week in August, informal garden tours, homemade tea and cakes, a nature trail and guided history of the garden were available to visitors during that week. The Walled Garden at Santry Demesne comprises a thriving kitchen garden and heritage variety orchard where trees can be sponsored and plans are underway to turn the front area into a recreation area for picnics and cultural events.
