Minister Deploys New Off Road Vehicle for St. John’s Ambulance

St. John’s Ambulance has been at the forefront of providing first aid for over 100 years and its members in Dublin 15 were delighted to accept the handover of a new off road 4WD ambulance from Minister for Transport, Leo Varadkar, T.D., recently.

The goats, on loan from Newbridge Farm, will graze 2000m2 of

fenced heathland on the Howth Estate until late October when they will be taken back to Newbridge for the winter months, returning to Howth in the springtime. Over at St. Catherine’s Park, the hardy cattle, on loan from a local farmer, will remain for the winter in a pilot project to convert floodplain lands along the Liffey to a wetlands habitat with particular wildlife like frogs, herons and dragonflies.

The new vehicle will allow volunteers to respond faster on and off the road and to reach areas a conventional ambulance could not reach. It will be crewed by highly trained voluntary members from Castleknock, Blanchardstown and Ongar Division’s and fully equipped with the latest medical technology.
