Revving Up to Tackle Gum Litter
Fingal County Council is ramping up activity with “Bin it your way” the national Gum Litter Taskforce awareness campaign which aims to reduce the amount of gum litter nationally.
The Council’s Environmental Awareness Team and Litter Wardens recently handed out gum wraps to visitors to the Pavilions Shopping Centre, Swords, along with Mayor of Fingal Cllr. Cian O’Callaghan and volunteers from Swords Tidy Towns committee. On the same day, the Gum Litter Taskforce invited two Ecocabs to Swords to hand out gum wraps to passengers and passers-by, reminding them to “Bin their gum” responsibly in order to step away from a ¤150 litter fine.
Fingal County Awards went to Skerries (Winners), Malahide (Highly Commended), Lusk (Commended) and Balbiggan (Endeavour Award). The SuperValu Tidy Town Hero Award went to John Flynn, Lusk Tidy Towns and the Best Bring Bank Award went to St. Fintans Cemetary Sutton.
