TMA Award for Excellence in Academic Medicine

TMA is eager to recognize our physician leaders who are dedicated to caring for patients and preparing tomorrow’s physician workforce. We’ve created a new award program to do just that.

Report: Don’t skimp on EHR training

Some 60 percent of Texas physicians now use an electronic health record (EHR), according to the Texas Medical Association’s latest survey data. Howev- er, dissatisfaction and discontent persist among some physician users of EHRs. A recent report from AmericanEHR

Partners indicates a direct correlation between physician satisfaction with EHRs and the amount of training they received. The report concludes it takes at least three to five days of EHR train- ing for physicians to achieve the highest level of overall satisfaction. Nearly half of survey respondents indicated they re- ceived three or fewer days of training. Clearly, knowing how to use the prac- tice’s EHR properly is an asset for any user of the product. Any support the practice can give physician and staff EHR users has the potential not only for happier users but also for increased effi- ciency. That helps you achieve the return on your EHR investment more quickly. The four Texas regional extension centers (RECs) help physicians with their technology needs with a special fo- cus on the federal EHR incentives. Direct your questions about the RECs or other health information technology needs to the TMA HIT Helpline at (800) 880- 5720, or email HIT@texmed.org. n
