Among the EFT and ERA operat- ing rule requirements, by Jan. 1, 2014, health plans must:

• Provide standardized paper-based and online EFT and ERA enrollment forms,

• Send EFTs within three days of trans- mitting ERAs, and

For guidance, physicians can contact TMA Practice Consulting by visiting www.tex med.org/consulting, calling (800) 523- 8776, or emailing practice.consulting@ texmed.org.

The AMA also called the rule “a tre- mendous victory for physicians, because it will enable them to determine the pa- tient’s financial responsibility when care is provided, thus enabling them to settle payment before the patient leaves the office.” At press time, TMA planned to submit comments of its own on the new rule or join the AMA in doing so by the Oct. 9 deadline.
