ROUND-UP LASER LINE FOR SOLAR CELL SCANNING DIGITAL SCAN HEADS

Limo has announced that its L³ Line Laser generates a very homogeneous illuminated line for scanning a solar cell 156mm by 156mm in size. The L³ Line Laser’s wavelength of 790 or 808nm makes the spectral separation of the laser beam and photoluminescence signal easier. It is due to this property that photoluminescence systems can measure with laser illumination very quickly and reliably. Unlike electro-luminescence systems, photoluminescence is a contact-free

testing system and thus destruction- free. This gentle measuring method reduces the costs for mechanical setup and prevents damage. At the same time Limo offers beam shaping modules that homogeneously illuminate a complete field under a certain angle. The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems in Freiburg has already tested the interaction between high-performance diode lasers and the beam shaping modules. www.limo.de

Raylase has expanded its portfolio with digital scan heads for high- end applications. The heads enable highly accurate marking, different process optimised tunings, improved dynamics and numerous diagnostic options. Here, Raylase has developed the control algorithms with attention to particular low-noise design. Developed in twin-shell design, the

HIGH-POWER LASERS FOR CELL PROCESSING

Photonics Industries International has extended its Nd:YVO4 based DSH Series laser offering to include 50W of green and 30W of UV average power in a commercially available diode pumped solid state laser. Now available from UK distributor Laser Lines these efficient, high power lasers are for novel next generation crystalline silicon or thin film based solar cell processing; glass cutting; thin or low K wafers and LED substrates scribing

and dicing; via hole drilling; flex circuit cutting; ITO patterning/ FPD processing; and other novel micromachining applications. Photonics Industries International has added several new models to its DSH Series intracavity harmonic lasers. All these new high power DSH Series operate at a rep rate up to 300kHz with pulse widths ~40ns while still maintaining TEM00 mode quality. www.laserlines.co.uk

Raylase scan heads offer improved dynamics with acceleration times of up to ≤0.18ms and high quality writing speeds >800cps. Digital drive enables a multitude of setups, which makes the scan head considerably more flexible possible. Further advantages of digital technology are exceptionally low drift values with a maximum gaindrift of 50ppm/K and a maximum offset drift of 3µrad/K. Long-term drift over eight hours in the standard version is <150µrad. In addition, the new series provides essential diagnostic data in real time, such as status information, speed and position of the mirrors, temperature of electronics, and error messages. Time-shift and resulting tracking errors are thus compensated. Digital regulation enables monitoring the procedural

correctness of all processes, which significantly increases process reliability. In developing the digital scan heads Raylase particularly emphasised low-noise design required for high-precision scribing applications. Tuning of the scan heads customised to the requirements of the application or customer is possible, and furthermore deflection mirrors and lenses for all typical laser beam sources and working fields are available. Raylase also offers a high-speed version of its digital scan heads featuring particularly light and torsion-resistant mirrors. Also available is a low-drift version with a long-term drift of <100µrad over 24 hours featuring water tempering and auto-calibration. The Raylase digital scan heads are ideally suited for high-end applications which require flexibility, such as the production of solar cells, flat screens and LEDs. Typical processing types include marking the scribing, welding, drilling, high-speed processing of moving parts, micromachining and rapid prototyping. www.raylase.com

Newport’s Spectra-Physics brand has launched its Millennia Core high power, continuous wave (CW) green diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) laser.

Millennia Core delivers 25W of

CW DPSS green power, with superior beam quality and extremely low noise. Featuring a single, industrial- grade package that integrates the

power supply, laser diodes, and optical cavity, the new lasers are highly reliable and easy to use for demanding applications including ultrafast laser pumping and laser doping. Millennia Core delivers industry-leading single-mode TEM00 beam quality (M2

<1.1) and very low

optical noise. www.newport.com

Vitronic’s camera-based Vinspec Solar system, which automatically checks the quality of photovoltaic components throughout production, now inspects 150 different types of solar cell thanks to a recent upgrade as part of a customer project. Solar cells differ significantly

in terms of size, shape, colour or imprint. To inspect them automatically demands a flexible system. Most types of solar cells are taught-in to inspection systems on module production lines. Vitronic has now taught Vinspec Solar to inspect 150 different types of solar cell. Vinspec Solar allow the

automated in-line quality inspection

of wafers (raw cells without prints or colours), solar cells, and complete modules. The system detects flaws such as micro cracks, corner and edge breakages, print defects, and contour/colour/texture deviations. This ensures that only good solar cells are processed into modules, reduces the rejection quota and triggers other processes such as automated sorting by colour classes. Moreover, automatic inspection is robust and secure. Companies can use the data collected by Vinspec Solar to provide information on the process chain and identify areas for optimisation. www.vitronic.de
