FILTERS IMPROVE IMAGE QUALITY

Edmund Optics has introduced Techspec SWIR longpass filters. These filters provide the high transmission and deep rejection necessary to isolate narrow spectral regions for use in a wide range of applications. The filters are designed specifically to allow short-wave infrared (SWIR) wavelengths to pass through, while blocking all visible light. They are ideally suited for increasing the image quality of InGaAs cameras in a variety of industrial machine vision, defence and solar cell inspection applications. The SWIR filters are an excellent solution when used as extended cold mirrors, to eliminate damage or adverse effects as a result of heat build-up in a given system, saving customers money and time. The Techspec SWIR longpass

AdlOptica’s new Focal-piShaper has been optimised to operate with high power (>1kW) fibre lasers. This water cooled Focal-piShaper combines functions of collimation and beam shaping converting, with nearly 100 per cent efficiency. For example, a divergent Gaussian laser

beam focused into a collimated beam can be optimised to create flat top, donut, and inverse gauss profiles near the lens’ focus. Its advantages include efficient laser energy usage, reduced heat affected zone, higher quality of materials processing,

compactness, easy integration in existing equipment, and operation with scanning optics. Potential applications include marking, selective laser melting, welding, scribing, dicing, micromachining, photovoltaics and drilling. www.pishaper.com

filters are available with either 700nm or 850nm cut-on (at 50 per cent of peak transmission) wavelengths, in 12.5mm, 25mm and 50mm diameters, as well as in a 50 x 50mm size. www.edmundoptics.com

CMOS CAMERAS FOR HIGH SENSITIVITY

Camera specialist Basler has entered series production of its Ace GigE camera models with powerful CMV2000 and CMV4000 CMOS sensors from Cmosis. Two monochrome models will also be available as near infrared variants, which exceed, in some instances, even high-quality CCD cameras in matters of image quality and sensitivity. These Ace GigE cameras

are available with 2 Megapixel resolution and 50fps (acA2000- 50) and with 4 Megapixel resolution and 25fps (acA2040- 25), each in monochrome and

colour. Just as the Cmosis-based Camera Link models, these cameras exhibit low noise and a high sensitivity, resulting in excellent image quality. They are thus an ideal match for a broad variety of applications including factory automation, semiconductor and electronics production, traffic applications, the solar industry and the medical sector.

The two monochrome models are also available as NIR-optimised variants. They achieve excellent sensitivity at wavelengths of 900nm. Thus,

they offer advantages under bad lighting conditions or at night, and are an ideal choice for surveillance, intelligent traffic systems, or biometrics. The models have an excellent price/performance ratio. They have a compact housing of 29 x 29 x 43.5mm and weigh less than 90g. Only one cable per camera is necessary thanks to the power supply via Power over Ethernet. This also saves space and reduces complexity, susceptibility to faults, and system costs. www.baslerweb.com
