RGC Jenkins’ German division merges with local firm


RGC Jenkins & Co, a patent and trademark specialist, has merged its German department with Maucher, Börjes & Kollegen, based in Freiburg. Te new firm is called Maucher Börjes Jenkins.

Felix Rummler, partner of Jenkins, will join Henrich Börjes-Pestalozza as a partner in the new firm. Rummler said: “By this exciting merger, Jenkins expands its reach into


the technology-rich ‘three-country triangle’ where Germany, France and Switzerland meet.”

Herbert Smith merges with Freehills


Herbert Smith and Freehills have announced a full equity merger. Herbert Smith Freehills will be launched on October 1, 2012.


The new firm will have 2,800 lawyers, an IP practice with 19 partners, and a total of 100 fee earners, including associates.

Brandyberry specialises in patent preparation and prosecution, as well as patent litigation. Before joining Baker Hostetler, Brandyberry served in the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) legal division at the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.

Baker Hostetler expands IP group in Cincinnati


Baker Hostetler has added three lawyers to its IP group in Cincinnati.


John M. Mueller and Kevin S. Sprecher join as counsels, while Jared A. Brandyberry assumes the role of staff attorney. The firm’s IP practice is now 75-strong in the US.


Mueller moves from Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP, where he was a partner in the IP group. His practice includes patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret law. He has experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent


applications in the consumer products industry.


Sprecher was a partner at Frost Brown Todd LLC. His practice focuses on areas such as patent


procurement and exploitation;

Seyfarth Shaw recruits partner in Chicago


Seyfarth Shaw LLP has recruited a partner from McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert & Berghoff LLP, who will work in its Chicago office.


Michael H. Baniak joins the IP litigation department. His practice covers prosecution, counselling and litigation spanning patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret law.


He has been involved in hundreds of IP lawsuits during his career, more than half of which involved patents. Recent patent litigation cases involved music subscription services, laser sintering, bone prostheses, telecommunications and automobile airbag technology.
