Vogl switches Jones Day for Orrick


Peter Vogl has left Jones Day to become a partner in Orrick’s IP practice in New York.


He Peter Vogl specialises in areas


including anti-counterfeiting, cybersquatting, false advertising,


trade secret litigation before state and federal courts, and inter partes proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.


Vogl also worked at IP law firm specialists Pennie & Edmonds, which was dissolved following a merger with Jones Day.


Steve Routh, co-head of Orrick’s IP group, welcomed Vogl’s latest move. “We are thrilled to have him join our internationally recognised team.” Vogl added: “I’m truly excited to be a part of such an exceptional team of lawyers.”


Eric Osterberg opens new IP law firm in US


IP litigator Eric Osterberg has opened a new firm in Stamford, Connecticut.


Osterberg LLC, formed in April 2012, specialises in copyright, trademark and

patent infringement, as well as other IP abuses.


The firm’s founder has litigated a wide range of IP disputes in federal courts in the US. He has specialised in cases involving companies in


the music, media and technology industries.


Pointing to the increasing importance of the Internet in IP disputes, he said: “While today’s technology tools enable innovation like never before, they also set the stage for more potential hazards and abuse. Copying inventions, images, music and other IP is harmful not only to the property owner, but also to the system as a whole because ultimately it erodes the incentive to innovate.”


DLA Piper hires partner in Hamburg


DLA Piper has added to its German IP practice by appointing partner Dr Stefan Dittmer in Hamburg.


Dittmer joins from Baker & McKenzie in Berlin, where he worked for 15 years. He


advises companies in the technology, chemicals and media sectors. He also advises plant and consumer goods manufacturers on brand, competition, design and copyright issues. Clients include companies producing telecoms devices and defence technology.


“We are pleased to have recruited a recognised expert in IP litigation. His experience will strengthen the expertise of DLA Piper in an area that is subject to particular demand in Hamburg and will further advance the strategic expansion of the Hamburg offi ce,” said Dr Jan Geert Meents, managing Partner of DLA Piper in Germany.


Dittmer added: “I am looking forward to the assignment of contributing to the further expansion of the IP group in Germany and to working with my new colleagues.”


EIP appoints new head of trademark practice


IP law firm EIP has hired a senior trademark attorney from Mishcon de Reya.


Simon Stanes heads up the firm’s trademark practice, EIP Brands. Stanes has more than 15 years’ experience in private practice and has worked for firms such as Marks & Clerk and J.A. Kemp & Co.
