In the last edition of ToolBUSINESS+HIRE Magazine I wrote about the build up to the London 2012 Olympic Games and the hope that we would all take pride in our achievements in hosting this prestigious event. As an enthusiastist for the coming event I was optimistic that Great Britain would pull it off and produce something exceptional. I am sure you will agree that London 2012 surpassed all our expectations and everyone who contributed and took part deserves our congratulations for the wonderful, entertaining two weeks we all enjoyed. The amazing spirit of the games and the showcase it delivered to the world of the vibrant, diverse and energising city of London was an inspiration. Everyone involved, from the athletes, to the cheering spectators, to the thousands of volunteers, contributed to a lasting legacy and the belief that dreams can be realised with hard work and commitment. The challenge now as we all return to normal is how to exploit the feel-good legacy for the

common good. The economic benefit may be modest – that is yet to be assessed, but the mood of the country over the past few weeks has been a welcome change from the doom and gloom of the recession and it is good to be reminded that the things that unite us as a nation remain powerful and generous in spirit and that we can pull out all the stops even when we have our back against the wall. If only a small part of this enthusiasm spills over to the business world our economy will benefit. Lets hope those of us in this industry will take the opportunity to feed on the mood of optimism as long as it may last! For those experiencing withdrawal symptoms we still have the Paralympics to look forward to, and many of those who

were not lucky enough to obtain tickets for the Olympics themselves have an opportunity to experience the excitement of visiting the Olympic Park and cheering on the amazing athletes who will perform in spite of their disabilities. We have our own exciting event to look forward to here with the 200th edition of ToolBUSINESS+HIRE Magazine
