Transport sector asked for views on apprenticeships

As the Government reviews apprenticeships, businesses are being asked to give their opinions on the proposed changes.

Sector skills council People 1st, which covers passenger transport, hospitality, travel and tourism, is consulting

on apprenticeships

to ensure all employers have the chance to provide feedback.

The focus should be on the content, delivery and assessment of apprenticeships, People 1st suggest. The submission to the Richard Review will cover how businesses use apprenticeships, what they would like to see the used for and if they do not currently use them, what might encourage them to do so.

Ruth Asker-Browne, head of professionalism at People 1st, said: “Research has shown that apprenticeships are of growing value to the passenger transport sector. While just 5% of organisations currently employ anyone on a government approved apprenticeship programme, 41% of employers would consider doing so in the future.

“It is imperative that employers use this chance to be heard. We urge employers to attend the consultation event to ensure their point of view is captured and incorporated into what is likely to become the sector’s key document of reference for the Review.”
