I have just read with interest your article on inactivity and disease.

Having worked as a nurse in the NHS for over 13 years I found a strong correlation between illness and a sedentary life.

After leaving the NHS I started a Walk Innovation project that was set up to encourage people to meet up in groups and go walking. This form of ‘netwalking’ proved to be an easy way for people to get more active.

I’m glad to see that you have highlighted this link and would like to know of any other initiatives out there that encourage physical activity that I may refer my clients to.

Service (GPS) announcement of measures designed to speed up the payments to recruitment suppliers and especially SMEs through “a dynamic and transparent supply chain, with no barriers to entry” is welcome and in my opinion very much needed.

The lifeline of any business is cash flow but SMEs often have a greater financial burden as they can’t diversify their risk as broadly as larger firms. So to hear this announcement from the GPS is extremely positive.

I am self-employed and can’t even afford to pay into a pension. Why should I pick up the tab for such huge pensions.

Even cleaners in the public sector retire on more favourable terms than private sector middle managers. It is ridiculous and about time it was changed!

The Government is perhaps missing the point with its plans for care loans for those who can’t afford to support themselves at home.

The real focus should be on safeguarding those services that keep the elderly out of the care system in the first place.

£1.2bn with an additional £51.3m subsidy for the provision of a ‘Meals on Wheels’ service.

This is why we believe there is the potential opportunity for the UK economy to save in excess of £1bn each year, by keeping people in their own homes for longer, through the support of a robust ‘Meals on Wheels’ service.

There comes a time when entry into the care system can no longer be delayed, but any measures that help elderly people remain in the comfort and dignity of their own homes will ultimately go a long way to making considerable cost savings in the longer term.
