A survey polling 657 employers in Singapore has revealed that just over a quarter (26%) plan to increase their headcount between July and September this year. The survey, from Manpower, found that the Public Administration and Education sector reported the most optimistic outlook for employment (40%), followed by the Mining & Construction industry (25%) and Transportation & Utilities (21%).

A professor from Columbia University in New York has warned that Asean integration could lead to a brain drain from poor countries to richer ones. Joseph Stiglizt warned that risks may arise from skilled workers moving to rich member countries such as Singapore – citing a similar problem in Africa which consequently suffered a shortage of medical doctors.

The 104 Human Resources Bank’s Walking off the Stage in 2011 survey has revealed some unusual reasons young Taiwanese adults gave for resigning. Prime examples include following fortune-tellers’ suggestions,a mis-match between the employer’s and the employee’s magnetic field and needing to organise apet funeral. Unsurprisingly 58 per cent of managers don’t believe the excuses they’re fed by resigning employees.
